Oil is from dead organic material conspiracy

To many people, oil is "known" as a "fossil" fuel and the perception is that it came from animal and plant material in
the past.  This would be consistent with the theory that the Earth was formed as a hot mass and then cooled.  On the
other hand, many think that it formed by aggrigation and that methane was trapped in the interior.  Due to pressures,
the methane combined into petroleum and coal.  Many people picture a maple leaf fossil in a lump of coal thus
proving that coal came from dead plants.  Fossils of dinosaurs are found in tar pits, but were the tar pits merely an
area into which animals could fall and become suffocated?
